Prof. Michael Daramola is a strategic, purpose-driven academic leader, engineer, and mentor with more than 21 years of experience across higher education, research, administration, governance, professional service and community engagement. He currently serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria, where he provides strategic, academic, leadership and transformation direction for a complex department with national and international reach. He has also completed research management, academic leadership, emotional intelligence and project management training. Professionally, he is a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom, a Registered Engineer in Nigeria, a Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa, a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and a Fellow of the South African Institution of Chemical Engineers. Prof Daramola conducts sustainable chemical engineering research producing solutions for enhancing sustainable energy and environment. He is amongst the world's Top 2% scientists (Stanford and Elsevier’s list) and finalist recognition in the NSTF-South32 Awards (2021/2022) (referred to as the South African “Oscar Science Awards”). To-date, Prof Daramola has trained 78 postgraduate students (33 doctorate and 45 master’s and more than 25 early career researchers (22 postdoctoral fellows as capacity development in the field. His knowledge contribution in the field has attracted 9000 citations( H-index:50).
