BioHydrogen Producer
At Athena Research and Innovation, we produce a bioHydrogene from waste and wastewater from the agri-food industry. For this, we use bacteria capable to grow on these products while releasing hydrogen through a dark fermentation process.
In wastewater, there are sugars, proteins, lipids and minerals, all that bacteria need to grow. This is the main energy source of our system. Thus, our fermentation process is distinguished in 3 ways. i) we use biomass that interests no one today ii) we have a very efficient energy balance. With 1 MWh of energy consumed, we produce 4 MWh of biohydrogen and we save 10 MWh for industrial waste treatment (TRE=14 for 120 t/year). iii) Our circular economy process makes it possible to have an unparalleled carbon balance. For 1 kgH2 produced, we avoid emissions of 40 kgeqCO2.

Descriptif / The Story

Green hydrogen from the thermochemical treatment of dry biomass
10:00  Haffner Energy (fr) : has developed an industrial solution allowing the production of renewable hydrogen from various biomasses by thermolysis, without dependence on electricity (renewable or carbon-free nuclear)
10:15  Hymoov (fr) : recovery of wood waste for the production of syngas which will in turn be purified and recombined to obtain green hydrogen
10:30  Cortus (se) : offers a flexible feedstock technology as it can produce three-phase products: solid, liquid and gaseous, including the production of green hydrogen from biomass gasification

10:45  Round Table

11:05  Break (5 minutes)

On the horizon - new approaches to green hydrogen production
11:10  Sakowin (fr) : microwave plasma technology that converts natural gas and biomethane into decarbonated hydrogen gas and solid carbon via a methane decomposition process without CO2 emissions
11:25  Athena Recherche (fr) : production of hydrogen by culturing micro-organisms from waste water from the food industry. The final residues, the fermentation musts will also be transformed into biochar by carbonization, in order to be used as a soil amendment
11:40  Bretagne-Centre-Hydrogène (fr) : production of hydrogen, ammonium sulphate and irrigation water from pig urine

11:55  Table Ronde

12:15  Pause (5 minutes)

Green hydrogen produced locally by reforming biomethane from biogas into renewable hydrogen directly at the source of the raw material
